Sprainbrook Nursery is a family run business. It was started in 1944 by Alfred O Krautter who studied Floriculture in Dresden Germany and his wife Hermine Krautter who at the age of 95 still went to work every day. It is now run by Alfred H Krautter who studied Horticulture at Cornell University and his wife Heidi Krautter who is trained in office management. The business was built as a plant oriented company. The ability to propagate and produce superior plants is what gave Sprainbrook its name. It has one of the largest assortments of plant cultivars for sale. Its selection of superior varieties comes from its many years of testing, researching, propagating and growing. Each year new selections are added to an ever increasing list.
